Uniforms

Should students have to wear uniforms?

Education is a major key for prosperity and growth in life. When education and learning is the main focus for young students everyone's immediate opinion is that there should be no reason why the kid shouldn’t prosper. But there are many factors that play a big part in kids lives that can deter and interrupt their ability to learn. Some kids live in gang infested neighborhoods and some parents might not have money to pay for outfits and nice shoes like other families which leads to bullying. Traditionally private high protege schools are known for uniforms but many U.S public schools are adopting uniforms for children in increasing numbers. As a young student growing up I wore and like that public schools are choosing to wear uniforms. Kids growing up in today's generation are easily distracted by the smallest things, like who has the new outfit they seen Lil Wayne wearing to the popular hoverboard. Anything to stand out to prove you are more popular and cooler than your classmate. Grades and success has taken a backseat in current grade schools because of popularity and short attention spans. Uniforms in public schools limit the distractions and serve a good purpose for these students.

Schools that enforce strict school uniforms prevent “gang members” from wearing gang colors and attire to the campus. In the rural areas in Los Angeles California gangs are heavily influenced and many children join these gangs because it is a popular thing to do in the neighborhood and for protection. When these children attend schools and promote their gang colors they are more than likely to come across a rival gang member. When gangs are provoked these kids are not break dancing like in the 80's to solve a conflict. These kids are young and are looking for any reason to make a name for themselves to impress their fellow gang friends. From shootings to stabbings the worst types of incidents take place in gang violence that can cause family members losing a loved one. Nobody deserves to lose a loved one no matter what background or circumstances they come from and schools that enforce strict uniforms prevent these problems from happening. Instead, wearing school uniforms should enhance school pride, unity, and community spirit. Uniforms promote a sense of teamwork and teach children how to dress properly that can benefit them in their adult years.

Perhaps most importantly, a uniform means students don't have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like isn't so important. There is no competition about being dressed in the latest trend, which would put a great deal of financial pressure on students and parents. It's hard to make fun of what someone is wearing when you're dressed exactly the same. When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers. All of these factors can help students concentrate on their schoolwork. With less drama and less distractions this will allow students to worry more about learning. Also, parents as well feel pressure competing with other families to buy fashionable clothes for their children. Keeping up with the latest Jordan's every month can cause a financial burden for some families. School uniforms can help parents save money. For example, buying your child a week set of uniform attire should be able to last a whole school year if wash properly and well taken care of. When I attended a school with uniforms it worked for me and my family.

Unfortunately, the decision for requiring students to wear uniforms everyone is not going to agree. Good factors may come into play that the lack of expression can play a big part because some students express themselves by the clothes they wear and resent wearing uniforms. I understand the argument but if your kid does not have problems with learning and does not live in a tough gang environment then uniforms might not be for your child. Every kid is different some need guidance more than others. Understanding what elements are most important for you and your child will help you determine if school uniforms are a right fit.
